who is linda?

Linda Schmidt is a Gippsland based jaded corporate employee turned artist. Growing up on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula as the youngest of four, she rebelled against the conventional from an early age and took an interest in creative arts. Throughout her school years Linda channelled this passion into drawing, ceramics, glass, and woodwork; painting was not her thing.

Out of school, with the mounting pressure of adulthood, Linda found herself in a corporate career. Despite successes, she spent too many nights stressed, crying and unfulfilled.

In 2022 as part of a team building excercise she did her first painting. It was terrible - but the process sparked her interest in the arts once more.

Linda started painting for friends and family as a way to escape the grips of corporate dullness. Over time she began receiving requests and selling work at local art shows. In 2024 she held her first exhibition; an exclusive event for Endota Australia. The exhibition was a success and the catalyst for turning a side hobby into a career.

With no formal training Linda paints freely, with spontaneity and intuition. She draws on her creative instinct to create bold, bright, expessionist style artworks. She is influenced by nature and a desire to cut through mediocrity with excitement and colour. The Gippsland landscape provides her with an abundance of flora and fauna for endless inspiration.

Linda works full time out of her home studio in Warragul, Victoria with a support crew made up of her husband, two kids, two cats and two dogs (it’s a bit of a zoo).

“life’s too short for dull walls”

The studio is always in a state of disarray. I tell myself it’s organised chaos - but I know that’s a lie. If you’d like to see me in studio, and some of my other works, let’s have a peek behind the curtain…
