ARTIST COMMENTS: The title probably says it all - but heck, let’s discuss the PTSD every Australian has suffered at the hands of an overprpotective mumma Mapgie! It’s spring, the sun is out, the flowers are in bloom, and you’re minding your own business on a stroll through the park. Then cue the psychopathic black and white suburban snipers. You didn’t see anything coming, but by golly you heard the booming clap over-head as they dived bombed you from behind. No time to check your underwear - just run! As you sprint for safety, you find yourself twisting and turning every which way, trying to see which direction they’ll swopp in from next. To passers by you look like a lunatic, unitl they too see the danger and take a wide berth. You, meanwhile, are breathless and hoping you’ve made it out of the danger zone! Unscathed, but rattled, you ‘take note to self’ the park will be off limits for the next month or so. “Swoopin’ Season” is an ode to manic Magpies everywhere, and a reminder to always be on your guard in Spring.
